Hallelujah!

Well at last. Why, it has taken at least three weeks for Davids's blog to appear, I know not. I do know that Julia will be pleased. So where is everyone else now?

As to shows not to miss.... be sure to see the 400 years of British drawing at Tate Britain. Very inspiring and why it has had so little publicity, beats me. Never mind all the razzamatazz at Tate Modern, this is where its at

Better late then never....

I posted this as a comment the other day... but here it is again.... This Blogging larky takes a little time to sort out!

have been avoiding Julia in the corridors. Why? Well, I have been somewhat tardy in jumping into blog space (I am not alone in that!). But better late than never.

Those of you interested in Modern British artists there is an exhibition in the Foss Fine Art gallery (113b Northcote Road), with works from Sir Peter Blake, Sandra Blow, Terry Frost and Bruce McLean. For those unfamiliar with Blake he was responsible for the album cover of Sergeant Pepper. The exhibition has some interesting pieces, and it is always good to support local galleries. If you do pop in ask for a look at the map clothing from Elisabeth Lecort, which are great.

Also this weekend (21st-22nd June) there is an open day at the Denmark Place Artists Studios, 47a Coldharbour Lane SE5. Jan Malaszek (PSAD lecturer) is one of the artists giving access to his studio space.

And here we are still waiting for everyone to jump in as Julia says. C'mon don't be shy. Don't be formal.

Let's Get Started!

Thank you to everyone who is prepared to jump straight in and have a go at blogging! Sorry I have held things up, by taking the longest time to accept Allan's invitation and start the whole thing going - blame it on technology!

To set the record straight the invitation to blog is an experiment to offer an informal forum for students and tutors /staff at the Art School to exchange news and views. It is not linked to Wandsworth Council or to the School management and it has been initiated to coincide with Adult Learners Week (May 17th -23rd). The hope is that there will be an informal exchange between the 10 people who signed up for it and if everyone feels it is enjoyable then we can invite others to join.

Although there are no rules it is worth remembering that it is not intended as an opportunity to sling mud or criticise - you can still speak to Charlie and Julia if you want to let us know about any concerns - but to share your expereinces as they happen and hopefully to show some images too of any work you are involved with.

As a student myself of Digital Photography and Life Drawing and Painting I will be contributing too. So now that the introductions are over it is now over to you . . . . . . .

Looking forward to your responses

The Future of Lifelong Learning

NIACE recently called for evidence to contribute to an independent commission of inquiry into the future for lifelong learning and its impact on happiness and well-being. About 20 students from PSAD took away the information with a view to writing or e-mailing their responses – in particular the commission is interested in:

What the evidence tells us about the impact of lifelong learning on happiness and well-being?

Where are the gaps in evidence in relation to this theme?

What are the key messages from this evidence to pass on to the inquiry?

What does the impact of lifelong learning have on mental health, satisfaction with life and one's ability to shape one's destiny?

The commission is chaired by Sir David Watson; it was launched on 25 September 2007and it will report in Spring 2009. During the NIACE – sponsored inquiry, experts from government, business, academia, trade unions, public service, providers and the voluntary and community sector, as well as learners, will come together in a process to identify a broad consensus for the future direction of adult learning policy in the UK.
The website for further information about the commission is available at www.lifelonglearninginquiry.org.uk
